General Appearance

Enarthrocarpus pterocarpus (Pers.) DC. / Syn. Enarthrocarpus pterocarpus var. pterocarpus // Heterotypic Synonyms: Enarthrocarpus pterocarpus var. hispidus Pamp, it is an annual herb, much branched from the base, up to 50 cm long, ascending, hispid with more conspicuous, whitish hairs than in the Enarthrocarpus strangulatus Boiss. Leaves ± similar to the Enarthrocarpus strangulatus Boiss. Flowers large, yellowish with violet veins. Siliquae (20-) 30-50 (-55) x (2.5-) 3-6 (-7.5) mm, linear-lanceolate, often outcurved above, usually conspicuously winged below, variable (wings sometimes suppressed), ± hispid; lower segment obconical stalk-like, 1-2-seeded, persistent; upper segment. usually broader at base, (2-) 7-13-seeded, caducous, tapering into a (7-) 10-13 mm long, curved, seedless beak, margin keeled or winged, ± membranous, torulose to submoniliform except the beak. Seeds c. 1.2 mm long, ellipsoid, brownish. 2 varieties are recognized here. the type having winged fruits and the other without wings.
