General Appearance

Herniaria glabra L., it is annual to perennial, bright pale-green, with or without woody rootstock. Branches prostrate, spreading to 15-25 cm, internodes 1-2 cm long, glabrous or minutely hairy. Leaves sub sessile or short petioled, opposite, alternate on floral shoots. elliptic-obovate to spathulate, 4-7 x 2.5-3.5 mm, glabrous or rarely ciliate on margins, acute; stipules scarious, triangular-ovate, finely ciliate on margins, acute. Inflorescence dense, axillary and terminal, 5-12-flowered cymose spicate clusters. Flowers pentamerous, c. 1.5 mm long, c. 3 mm across, sub sessile, perigynous zone glabrous or very slightly puberulous. Bracts similar to stipules. Sepals 5, all equal, lanceolate, c. 1 mm long, acute, glabrous or rarely ciliate on margins. Petals 5, linear, green, shorter than sepals. Stamens 5, antisepalous; anthers yellow, c. 0.25 mm long. Ovary sub globose, finely papillate at the apex; style minute, stigmas 2, sub erect. Utricle ovoid, slightly exceeding sepals, c. 1.6 mm long, brownish. Seeds lenticular, c. 0.5 mm in diameter, glabrous, shining brown.
