General Appearance

Diplotaxis virgata (Cav.) DC., it is an annual, ± hispid herb, simple or branched from the base, up to (10-) 20-60 (-80) cm long, erect or sub erect. Leaves oblong-elliptic, dentate to pinnately lobed, shortly petioled to sub sessile, hispid to glabrous. Upper leaves few, smaller. Flowers Sulphur-yellowish to pale whitish, often violet-veined, c. 1 cm across, pedicels 4-7 mm long, elongating up to 15 mm in fruit. Sepals 4-5 mm long. Petals 6-10 mm long, obovate. Stamens 3-4: 4.5-6 mm long; anthers c. 1.3 mm long. Siliquae 20-40 x 1.5-2 mm, glabrous ± erect on ascending pedicels; gynophore absent; beak linear, (0-) 1-2-seeded, 2-6 mm long with capitate stigma. Seeds 2-senate, many, c. 1 mm long, brownish.
