General Appearance

Morettia philaeana (Delile) DC., it is a perennial, much brunched herb, stellately whitish, tomentose, prostrate or ascending, up to 30 cm long, sometimes stems pale yellowish or brownish with age. Leaves ovate-oblong, shortly petioled to sub sessile or sessile, ± entire appressedly tomentose, 3-15 (-20) x 3-5 mm. Flowers 5-7 mm across, white. Pedicels up to 2.5 mm long in fruit, sub appressed or appressed in fruit. thickened. Sepals 2-4 mm long. Petals exceeding the sepals. Stamens 2-3: 3.5-4 mm, anthers c. 1 mm. Siliquae (7-) 10–15 (-23) x c. 2 mm, tomentose except style and stigma, usually ± curved above, 4-9-seeded in each locule; stigma bifid, on c. 1 mm long, glabrous style; lobes mostly diverging in fruit, about half as long as the style. Seeds c. t mm long, ellipsoid, brownish, not margined.

Notes

Wild in a desert or arid rock, sandy soil, seems to be confined to the southern parts of Libya.
