General Appearance

Cynoglossum cheirifolium L. / Homotypic Synonyms: Pardoglossum cheirifolium (L.) E.Barbier & Mathez, it is a biennial, up to (15-) 25-45 cm, hirsute to tomentose herb with a woody base. Radical leaves long petioled. Cauline leaves sessile or sometimes amplexicaul, lanceolate, sub spathulate. (15-) 20-70 (80) x 10-25 mm, entire, obtuse-acute, whitish-tomentose on both the surface. Cymes bracteates, up to 100 mm long. Pedicel up to 20 mm long. Calyx lobe ovate or lanceolate ovate,5-7 x 1.25-1.75 mm, densely hirsute. Corolla ( lip yellow, throat violet, or white with tube pink, or cream coloured or with purple throat), (7) 8-10 mm, limb much shorter than the tube, lobes glabrous, c. 2 mm long, obtuse; scales c. 2 mm long, narrowly ovate with the capitate apex. Stamens brown inserted ± at the middle of corolla tube; anthers c. 2 mm long. Stigma small capitate; style slightly shorter than calyx. Nutlets 5-8 mm in diameter with a distinct border on the external face.
