Cleome amblyocarpa Barratte & Murb.

General Appearance

Cleome amblyocarpa Barratte & Murb., it is an annual to perennating herb, up to 40 cm tall, and sometimes with very thick tuberous root, erect, branched, glandular-pubescent, with (1-) 3-foliolalc, petiolate leaves and disagreeable smell; leaflets oblong-elliptic, 5-25 x 2-10 mm, usually with rounded apices. Flowers c. 1 cm across on lax, elongated, bractcate racemes. Sepals c.2 mm long, ± glandular. Petals c. 5 mm long, obovate, 1-2 mm broad, dirty yellow often with reddish-brown or violet tinge at the apices. Stamens 6, c. as long as the petals; anthers c. 1 mm long, ovate-apiculate, violaceous, dorsifixed. Capsules (17-) 30-45 x 5-10 mm, flat, pendulous, oblong. narrowed below and slightly above, glandular-pubescent, many seeded; gynophore inconspicuous to c. 2 mm long; pedicels up to 10-18 mm long, spreading to somewhat down curved; seeds c. 2 mm in diameter, mature densely lanate.
