Carrichtera annua (L.) DC.

Family: Brassicaceae
Flowering Time: Feb-May.

General Appearance

Carrichtera annua (L.) DC., it is an erect, branched annual herb, branching from the base. Leaves nearly glabrous, with long petioles, pinnatisect or bipinnatisect, with linear, obtuse segments. The raceme is very elongated in fruit and highly floriferous (up to 60 flowers or more). Flowers are pedicellate, petals, dull yellowish with violet veins or with creamy-white, with olive-green veins. Fruits are silicles with very few seeds (usually 3 per locule), possessing a concave, spoon-like face. Seeds are approximately 1.25 x 1 x 0.75 mm, mucilaginous, brown, and highly variable in shape, depending on their position within the locule and the pressure of neighboring seeds, but usually ±obovate. The surface is reticulate-foveolate.
