General Appearance

Anchusa hybrida Ten., it is a biennial hispid herb, up to 10-50 cm long, erect or ascending, with short and long spreading or depressed hairs or setae with or without tubercle-base. Leaves (40) 50-120 (150) x 4-10 (-25) mm with undulate or sinuate margins, oblong lanceolate to oblong-linear. Cymes many, bracts leafy, ovate to cordate, shorter than calyx. Calyx campanulate, 8-10 (-12) mm long, divided almost half of their length into lanceolate lobes; enlarged in fruit. Corolla violet or blue, tube 8-10 mm long, limb (6-) 8-12 mm in diameter, lobes ± rounded, scales ovate, penicillate, c. 2 mm long. Stamens inserted almost in the middle of the corolla tube; anthers c. 3 mm long, not reaching up to the scales. Nutlet c. 2 x 3 (-4) mm. obliquely ovoid, wrinkled, ± constricted above at ring.
