General Appearance
Nonea calycina (Roem. & Schult.) Selvi, Bigazzi, Hilger & Papini / Homotypic Synonyms: Elizaldia calycina (Roem. & Schult.) Maire // Heterotypic Synonyms: Elizaldia calycina ssp. multicolor (Kunze) Chater, it is a setose annual herb, covered with long tubercle-based hairs. Stem ascending, up to 10-30 cm tall, usually profusely branched at the base. Leaves 30-70 x 5-15 (17.5) mm. Lower Leaves lanceolate or elliptic, entire, with a long attenuate base. Cauline leaves broadly linear, semiamplexicaul or with a rounded base. Inflorescence a dense leafy cyme; floral leaves ovate-acuminate or lanceolate with a cordate base. Flowers white or yellowish with a violet throat; pedicel 1.5-4 mm long. Calyx 6-8 mm long, teeth linear lanceolate, acute, violet in fruit, covered with patent hairs, increasing up to 12-16 mm in fruit. Corolla 10-12 mm long, lobes small, rounded, limb c. 5 mm in diameter. Stamens slightly exserted, inserted above the phalange of the ring; anthers linear 1.5-2 mm long. Nutlets 3 x 5 mm, obliquely ovoid, usually transversely ribbed with a distinct collar-like ring at the base, ring strongly ribbed.
