General Appearance

Campanula erinus L., it is an erect, annual, up to 10-20 (-30) cm tall, hispid herb. Stem dichotomously branched ± angular, hairs patent. Leaves alternate to sub opposite in terminal parts oblanceolate to obovate, 10-20 x 4-8 mm, attenuate-sessile, crenate-dentate or upper ones palmately sub-incised and becoming 3-lobed, obtuse. Flowers small, terminal or aillary, sub sessile to sessile or almost so, lavender, blue or pale blue, fading to white. Calyx tube obconical, c. 2 mm long, hairy, lobes broadly triangular, c. 2.5-3 mm long, without calycine appendages, erect, stellately patent after anthesis, acute. Corolla campanulate, c. 4-5 mm long, slightly longer than calyx lobes, pubescent at the base, lobes straight, with few stiff hairs. Stamens unequal, filaments c. 0.5 as long as the corolla, glabrous; anthers c. 2 mm long. Ovary 3-loculed, with a villous style and 3-lobed stigma. Capsule urn-shaped, c. 3 mm in diam, pendent, laterally 3-valved. Seeds ovoid, ± acuminate at both ends.
