General Appearance

Savignya parviflora (Delile) Webb // Infraspecifics: Savignya pariflora. ssp. globosa Jafri, Savignya parviflora ssp. parviflora, Savignya parviflora ssp. longistyla (Boiss. Ex Reut.) Maire, it is an annual or biennial herb, sometimes sub shrubby, up to 30 (-40) cm tall, branched mostly from the base, glabrous or sub glandular. sometimes glaucous. Leaves fleshy or sub fleshy. Lower leaves, 2-6 x 1-2 cm. upper leaves, 10-25 x 1-4 mm. Flowers white, pink-violaceous to reddish-lilac. very variable in size and colour, (0.6-) 1-1.5 cm across. Pedicels up to 30 mm long in fruit, filiform, lower mostly pendulous. Sepals (2-) 2.5-3.5 x 1-2 mm. Petals (4-) 5-9 x 2-5 mm. Siliculae (5-) 8-20 x 4-8 mm, flat, compressed or not at margins, sometimes fruits short and inflated; beak 1.5-3 (-3.5) mm long; gynophore up to 3 mm long. Seeds 2.5-3 mm in diameter (including the membranous marginal wing).

Notes

Wild in Libya, a very polymorphic species. growing abundantly in the desert and arid regions of Libya from Nalut eastwards to Hun, Sebha (a zone between the southern desert region and the coastal Mediterranean region). Three infraspeciflc taxa. among our material, can be recognized, but integrading forms are not lacking.
