General Appearance

Enarthrocarpus strangulatus Boiss., it is an annual herb, up to 30 (-40) cm long, erect to ascending, hispid with fine, thin short hairs. Lower leaves lyrate-pinnatipartite to pinnatisect with 2-9 pairs of alternating to sub opposite lateral segments, petiolate to sub sessile; terminal segment, obovate, ± 3-lobulate, somewhat larger; lateral segments oblong, dentate. Upper leaves mostly forming bracts, oblong-obovate, dentate. Racemes corymbose above, mostly bracteate, much elongating in fruit. Flowers pale yellow, usually violet at the throat with violaceous-brownish veins. Sepals 4-6 mm long, ± hispid, often violaceous. Petals 10-12 x 4 mm. Pedicels up to 10 x 1 mm long in fruit, variously curved, sub appressed, ± glabrous, Stamens 6-7.5: 7-8.5 mm; anthers c. 2 mm long, Siliquae 30-40 (-45) x2-4 mm, mostly incurved, with coarsely constricted portions, moniliform, each side ± 5-veined; upper segment, 9-13-seeded, sub hispid to almost glabrous, apical (beak) seedless portion usually 3-5 mm long; lower segment short, 1-2-seeded, glabrescent. Seeds c, l (-1.2) mm long, ellipsoid brownish.
