General Appearance

Umbilicus intermedius Boiss., it is a geophyte perennial succulent herb with compressed-globose tubers and an erect, glabrous. Stem 10-50(-60) cm tall. Basal leaves are long-petiolate, with blades 2-6 cm in diameter and margins that are remotely crenate; stem leaves are alternate, sessile, cuneate to spatulate, and 0.5-2 cm long. The inflorescence is a raceme; the flowers are horizontally spreading or somewhat nodding, borne on stalks 2-3 mm long and subtended by bracts 4-6 mm long; the calyx is very small; the corolla is arceolate, 6-10 mm long, yellowish, with 5 ovate lobes; there are 10 stamens; the gynoecium consists of 5 free carpels. After flowering, an aggregate fruit of 5 follicles containing tiny seeds develops. Seeds dark brown c.0.5 mm.
