General Appearance

Matthiola longipetala (Vent.) DC.// Infraspecifics: Matthiola longipetala ssp. bicornis (Sm.) P.W.Ball , Matthiola longipetala ssp. hirta (Conti) Greuter & Burdet , Matthiola longipetala ssp. longipetala, Matthiola longipetala ssp. pumilio (Sibth. & Srn.) P.W. Ball, it is an annual herb, up to 50 cm tall, usually whitish, tomentose or pubescent with appressed stellate short hairs, eglandular to glandular or with unequal hairs, branched from the base erect to sub erect. Leaves variable, lower usually sinuate-dentate, pinnatifid to almost entire, linear, lanceolate. Flowers yellowish-pink or violaceous, purple, shortly pedicellate or sub sessile. Sepals 7-12 mm long. Petals 15-25 x 2-4 (-5) mm, linear to oblong-obovate, usually conspicuously undulated at the margins. Nectaries short, often filiform. Siliquae (30-) 50-70 (-100) 1-1.5 mm, straight to deflexed; lateral horns (2-) 4-10 mm. reflexed or deflexed: terminal horn conical, up to 1.5 (-2) mm.
