General Appearance

Matthiola glutinosa Jafri, it is a perennial with a woody base, c. 70 cm tall, very branchy, with glaucous branches, brownish-yellow. Basal leaves none, linear-oblong stem 10-20 x 1·2 mm, entire, sessile, apex rounded or obtuse. stellate-pubescent or sparsely glandular-glutinous. Pale yellow flowers shortly pedicellate. Sepals densely hairy-glandular, 5-7 x 1-1.5 mm. Petals linear at the margin very undulate, 12-20 x 1.5-2 mm. Pods 40-70 x 2 mm, rigid. flat, pubescent-glandular, apex bicornuate; horns 2·3 mm long, reflexed. acute: stigma erect-open, sub obtuse or acute, horns confluent: pedicels in fruit 1-2 mm long, camose, glabrous or sub glabrous.

Wild, endemic to Saharan desert in Libya.
