General Appearance
Coronilla scorpioides (L.) W.D.J.Koch, it is an annual, glabrous, glaucous herb, up to 30 (-40) cm long, ascending, sparsely branched especially from base. Leaves 1-3-foliolate, sub sessile, rather thick; terminal leaflet much larger, 10-40 cm long, broadly oblong-ovate to elliptic, sometimes mucronulate, shortly petiolulate; lateral leaflets 1-3, up to 8 mm long, ovate to suborbicular, often deciduous, sessile. Stipules connate, often sheating at base, ± scarious. Peduncles rarely exceeding the subtending leaves, (1-) 1-4-f1owcred terminally; bracts rudimentary, caducous; pedicels c. as long as the calyx. Flowers 4-6 mm long, yellow, purplish-veined. Calyx glabrous, with 5, very short, triangular teeth. Corolla 2-3 times as long as calyx. Pod 30-70 x 2 mm, linear, arcuate to coiled-circular, tetragonous, jointed, hardly constricted between segments, spreading or deflexed; beak 1-3 mm long. Seeds oblong, c. 2-3 x 0.5 mm, dark-brown, smooth.
