General Appearance

Carthamus nitidus Boiss., it is a glabrous annual herbaceous plant with white, cylindrical stems, up to 50-70 cm. that branch at the top, reaching a height The basal leaves are long, broad-bladed, and serrated, while the upper leaves are slightly folded and divided into spiny lobes measuring 3.5 cm in length and 1 cm in width. Capitula solitary on terminal and side branches; involucre 2.6-4 cm long; outer phyllaries resembling the leaves; inner phyllaries ovate with triangular, pectinate-dentate appendage. Florets pink, ± 2 cm long, of which lobes 4-5 mm. Achenes obovoid, 4.5 mm long; pappus of violet flattened bristles 1-7 mm long, the outer and inner shortest.
