General Appearance

Legousia falcata (Ten.) Fritsch ex Janch., it is an annual herb, erect to decumbent, up to 20-50 cm tall, ± pubescent to glabrous, basally branched. Leaves alternate. Lower leaves ovate to ± obovate, shortly petiolate, attenuate, obtuse. Upper leaves ovate-lanceolate, sessile, ± acute; margins somewhat undulate. Inflorescence an interrupted, lax spike with solitary or sometimes flowers paired in leaf axils, c. half as long as the plant. Flowers violet. Calyx tube up to c. 10 mm long, cylindrical ± pentagonal, 10-nerved, lobes, linear-lanceolate, almost as long as the ovary at anthesis, patent or falcately recurved, long acuminate. Corolla tube as long as calyx tube, c 1/3 as lung calyx lobes. Stamens with narrow, filiform anthers. Ovary glabrous; style shorter than corolla. Capsule 15-20 mm long ± angular cylindrical, not constricted at apex, dehiscing by 3-valves.
