General Appearance

Lonchophora capiomontana Durieu / Homotypic Synonyms: Matthiola capiomontana (Dur.) Pomel, it is an annual tomentose herb, up to 10-30 cm tall, with stellately branched usually sub equal hairs, erect or sub erect, branched from the base. Leaves narrowly elliptic, broadly triangular-denticulate to sub entire, sessile. Flowers purple-violet, sub sessile or sessile, on up to 15-flowered spike, distant. Sepals 7-9 x 1.5. Petals 15-20 x 1.5-3 mm. Siliquae 1.5-3 cm long, torulose, 4-6 (-8)-seeded in each locule, densely tomentose; basal appendages (3-) 5-7 mm long, one on each valve, up curved, flattish, tapering, tomentose; stigmatic appendages short spreading-straight, 1/3-I/2 as long as the basal appendages, acute; stigma 2-lobed, ellipsoid.
