General Appearance

Hornungia procumbens (L.) Hayek / Syn. Hymenolobus procumbens (L.) Nutt. ex Torr. & A. Gray, it is an annual, glabrous (or almost glabrous) herb. up to 20 (-30) cm long, procumbent; stem filiform. Basal leaves ± rosulate, deeply dissected to entire, 10-40 mm long, shortly petiolate to sessile. Upper leaves smaller, sessile. Racemes up to 10 cm in fruit. Flowers c. 1.5 mm across, white. Pedicels up to 8 (-12) mm long in fruit, filiform, spreading. Sepals c. 1 mm long. Petals c. as long as the sepals. Stamens c. 0.8: 1 mm. Siliculae ellipsoid-flattened, 2.5-4.5 x 1.5-2 mm, apex truncate, obtuse to sub emarginate, glabrous; septum c. 1 mm wide. Seeds usually 6 in each locule, c. 0.6 mm, ellipsoid, brownish.
