General Appearance

Erucaria pinnata (Viv.) Täckh. & Boulos / Homotypic Synonyms: Hussonia pinnata (Viv.) Jafri, it is an annual, glabrescent herb, often hairy dorsally on leaves and characteristically in the flower or fruit axils, sub glaucous, up to 1 m long, branched from below, erect to ascending, often violaceous in appearance. Leaves mostly bipinnatisect, lower petiolate usually with 2-4 pairs of lateral segments; segments oblong to filiform, ± channelled above. Racemes corymbose above, elongating in fruit.   Flowers 1 cm across, white to pinkish-violaceous. Pedicels up to 3 mm in fruit. hairy in the axils with white, longish hairs, somewhat thickened, usually erect, appressed. Sepals c. 4 mm long. Petals (7.5-) 8-10 (-14) mm long, ± densely veined. Stamens 4-5:5.5-6.5 mm long; anthers c. 1.5 mm, lateral nectar glands semilunar, middle glands hemispherical. Siliquae linear-cylindrical, slightly to conspicuously curved above, (10-) 15-30 (-35) x 1-2.5 mm, glabrous, sometimes pilose or papillose; upper segment deciduous, broader at base, tapering above, 2-4-secded, much longer than the lower segment; valves coriaceous. 5-nerved, ± transversely partitioned between the seeds; lower segment cylindrical, short, (0-) 1-4-seeded, septate or septum suppressed. Seeds 1.5-2.5 mm long, oblong-ovoid or ellipsoid, brownish.
