General Appearance

Spergula arvensis L., it is an annual herbaceous species, branched from the base. Stems ascending or decumbent. Leaves linear, fleshy, with a channeled underside; stipules scarious. Calyx with free, entire, triangular-lanceolate, green sepals having scarious margins. Corolla with 5 entire, white petals, larger than the sepals. Styles 5. Capsule dehiscing by means of 5 valves. Seeds c. 1 mm in diameter, black, globose-lenticular, surrounded by a narrow, yellowish, scarious wing. Seed surface colliculate; cells slightly convex, elongated, featuring radiating ridges that intersect with those of adjacent cells-visible only under high magnification
