General Appearance

Cyperus conglomeratus Rottb. it is a perennial or rhizomatous geophyte, densely tufted, the stems are straight, (4–)10–30(–40) cm high, obtusely triangular or rounded, at the base covered with persistent white papery sheaths, which sometimes form a bulbous structure. The leaves are linear, about as long as the stems, grooved, curved, stiff, but not prickly. The inflorescence is a dense terminal ring of 7–20 spikelets, bracts 3 to 8 cm long; spikelets usually short-stalked, flattened, broadly lanceolate in outline, 5–20 mm long and about 5 mm wide, whitish, chaffs are two-rowed, lanceolate, 5–6 mm long, pointed at the apex, keeled, brownish or greenish on the keel, flowers bisexual, uppermost flowers in spikelets male or sterile, perianth absent, stamens are 3; the testicle is superior, the stigmas are 3. The fruit is a three-sided smooth achene, 1.6–1.7 mm long and 1.2–1.3 mm wide.
