General Appearance
Cymodocea nodosa (Ucria) Asch. / Heterotypic Synonyms: Cymodocea major (Willd.) Grande, it is a perennial herb rhizomatous submerged hydro geophyte, Dioecious, rhizome 70-80 cm × 2-3 mm. Nodes pink, regularly spaced, intervals 3-7 cm long. The root is single at each node, unbranched. Leaves 2-5, green, linear, 10-20 cm × 1.5-2 mm, with 7-9 veins; with spiny extension on the edge towards the tip, scabbard 2-14 cm long blunt tip. Male flower, stamens 2, each long, pcdicellcd, anthers, 2-celled, Yellow, red dotted. 15 mm long with filiform pollen grains. Female flowers, 1-(2)-carpellate, syncarpous, ovary 8-10 mm long, mature ones somewhat compressed and keeled, sessile or stipitate: styles and stigmas filiform. Fruit a 1-seeded nutlet, is roundish, 6-7 mm long, with short pointed protrusions.
