General Appearance

Astragalus macrocarpus DC., it is a perennial herb, erect, robust, up to 60 cm tall, villose with long hairs. Leaves 10-25 cm long, arcuate-spreading, stipules 10-30 mm long, free nearly to the base, membranous, linear-subulate, hairy, leaflets 10-22 pairs, 10-20 x 6-10 mm, ovate to oblong elliptical, flat or folded, retuse. Peduncles much shorter than subtending leaves with 5-12-flowered racemes, often sub sessile. Flowers 20-35 mm long, yellow. Calyx tubular, about half as long as corolla, sparingly white-villose, teeth about half as long as tube or shorter, lanceolate linear, standard oblong, spatulate, retuse. Pods 50-60 x 30 (-40) mm, woody, corky, obovoid, inflated, glabrous or hairy with rounded or concave sutures and a sharp, straight beak. 10 mm long.

Reported from Libya without locality by Kieth

Notes

Wild. Easily recognizcd by its caulescent habit with larger fruits (largest of Astragalus in Libya). I have not found a recent record of this species in Libya so far.
