General Appearance

Erica sicula Guss. / Infraspecifics: Erica sicula ssp. sicula // Heterotypic Synonyms:  Erica sicula ssp. cyrenaica  Brullo & Furnari,  it is a dwarf shrub, up to 20-50 cm tall with erect o ascending branches. Young twigs densely pubescent. Leaves 4-5 in a whorl, 3-8 x 1 mm long, linear, patent densely pubescent, margins revolute, contiguous. Flowers (2-) 4 in terminal umbels, (4-) 5-merous. Pedicels 10-12 mm long, pubescent, with 3 bracteoles in the middle. Sepals ovate or broadly lanceolate, 4-5 x 1.5-2 mm, pubescent, pale pink. Corolla 6-7 x 4-5 mm, urceolate, somewhat constricted at the mouth. Anthers without appendates, included. Ovary pubescent. Style simple, stigma capitate. Capsule 6 x 5 mm, globose or orbicular. Seeds 0.5 x 0.3 mm. oblong to ovoid, dark brown and striate.
