General Appearance

Echium rubrum Forssk. / Heterotypic Synonyms:  Echium setosum Vahl, it is a small annual herb, densely branched, indumentum heterotrichous with appressed hairs and somewhat patent setae. Stem usually decumbent. Leaves broad linear to spathulate, attenuate at base, 30-50 x 7 mm, upper oblong, sessile. Spikes terminal, white hirsute, densely flowered, with lanceolate ciliate bracts. Calyx lobes linear-lanceolate, acute, hispid, 5-6 mm long, not accrescent. Corolla varying from blue to somewhat crimson with all the stamens included, 6-8 mm long, oblique-truncate with rounded lobes, hairy outside, limb c. 4-6 mm in diameter. Style bifid or emarginate, somewhat plumose. Nutlets 3 mm long, triquetrous, acute, somewhat tubercled
