General Appearance

Leontice leontopetalum L., it is a geophyte, rhizome tuberous. Stem erect, up to 10-80 cm. Leaves cauline as well as radical, bi to tripinnate, with irregular number of lobed leaflets; ultimate segments obovate, entire. Inflorescence a terminal raceme, mostly with 1-3 lateral branches arising from the axils of the upper leaves. Bracts conspicuous. Pedicels long, up to 6 cm (in fruits). Perianth segments 6, c. 8 mm long, petaloid, yellow; nectary scales 1-1.5 mm long. Fruit 25-40 mm, ovoid, inflated, with reticulate veins, eroding apically.
