General Appearance

Filago ramosissima Lange, it is an annual herb, up to (2-) 5-10 (-15) cm long, much branched above, rather stiff, greyish-white, tomcntose. Lower leaves 3-5 x 0.5 mm, linear to ovate-lanceolate. Upper leaves 4-6 x 1-1.5 mm, oblongish-lanceolate; leaves subtending the capitulum or cluster of capitula 3-4, 2-5 x 0.5 x 1 mm, over lopping the capitulum or cluster of capitula; all with greyish-white wooly hairs. Capitula solitary in the lower part of the plant and 2-3 in a cluster in its upper parts, axillary or seemingly terminal at the base of a bifurcation of the axis, 2.5-3 x2 mm, ovoid-cylindrical, 5-angled. Involucral bracts ± 4-rowed. Outer most ones 2.75 x 1.25 mm, ovate, carinate at the back, sharply acuminate-aristate, mid-rib brownish-red, margins membranous, straw-colored, back and margins rather densely woolly hairy. Involucral bracts of the 2nd and 3rd row slightly broader, hairy or slightly hairy at the margins and at the back. Inner most ones 2.25 x 1 mm, oblong, rather flattish, obtuse, glabrous, subtending only hermaphrodite florets. Hermaphrodite florets (3-) 4-5, corolla tubular 1 mm, 4-toothed, base saccate, pappose; pappus of 3-4 setae, deciduous.
