General Appearance

Filago contracta (Boiss.) Chrtek & Holub / Homotypic Synonyms:  Evax contracta Boiss, it is an annual herb, sub acquiescent, stems up to 4 cm long), unbranched, addressed grcyish-tomentose. Basal leaves of the rosette (20-) 25-30 x (3-) 5-6 mm, oblanceolate-spathulate, acute mucronate, gradually tapering and sheathing at the base, erect, those subtending the cluster of capitula c. 4 times as long as the cluster. Cluster of capitula (5-) 10-15 mm in diameter, compact, rigid. Capitula 6 x 4 mm, cylindrical-oblong. Involucral bracts 8, erect. Outermost involucral bract 4 x 2 mm (including arista 1 mm long), ± flat. ovate, slightly hairy near the apex below the arista. Involucral bracts of 2nd to 6th rows 4-4.25 x 2-2.25 mm (including arista 1-1.25 mm long), rhomboid-ovate to sub rhomboid, shallowly concave. Involucral bracts of 8th, row 2 x 2 mm, obovate-oblong, strongly concave, with margins strongly incurved. glabrous, subtending hermaphrodite florets. Female florets corolla 2 mm, filiform; ovary I mm. obovoid. Hermaphroditic florets corolla 2 mm long, tubular, 4-toothed. Cypsela 1.25 11 0.5 mm, obovoid, pale-brown, dorsoventrally compressed, papillose.
