General Appearance

Pulicaria vulgaris Gaertn., it is an annual herb, whitish-pubescent or rather brownish woolly, glandular, very much branched, leafy, erecto-patent. Stems 7-30 (-45) cm. Basal leaves 15-25 (-30) x 6-10 mm, oblanceolate, base attenuate into a short petiole, withered at anthesis. Mid and upper cauline leaves 5-10 (-15) x 1.5-3 mm, lanceolate to elliptical, acute, gradually narrowed to semi-amptexicaul base, margin softly undulate. Capitula numerous, solitary or 2, axillary or terminal, (6-) 8-10 mm in diameter, hemispherical. Peduncles 5-7 (10) mm long, filiform, scarcely thickening after anthesis. Involucral bracts 4-5 rowed, linear or linear-oblanceolate, villous and glandular. Outer involucral bracts 2.5-3 x 0.25 mm, acute herbaceous. Inner involucral bracts 3.5-4.5 x 0.5 mm, acuminate with setaceous apex, scarious. Ray florets ligulate, 1-rowed, yellow, nearly equalling the involucre, erect; basal tube 1.25 mm; limb 1.75 x 0.5 mm, 2-toothed, Disc florets numerous, yellow; corolla 2 mm, 5-1obed; lobes strongly glandular. Cypsela 1.25-1.5 mm. 4-5 angled, ellipsoid, with sparsely adpressed hairs; outer scales of pappus connate for at least 1̸2 their length, coronate; inner setae of 8 (-10), scabrid, ± equal or slightly longer than the cypsela.
