General Appearance

Prospero obtusifolium (Poir.) Speta / Homotypic Synonyms:  Scilla obtusifolia Poir., it is a bulbous geophyte, Bulb ovoid. c. 4 cm long, tunic, membmnous. brown in colour. Leaves basal, before flowers. c. 30 x 2 cm, oblong-linear, glabrous, margins undulate papillose. Scape usually 2-3 per plant, 15-40 cm long, each 2o-60-flowered. Flowers pedicellate; pedicels c. 1.3 cm long in fruit. Perianth campanulate. Tepals 6, free, ± oblong, attenuate. tip papillose, obtuse, c. 5 mm long, purplish with dark nerve. Stamens equal, shorter to as long as tepals; filaments purplish, broad at base. Anthers, ovoid-oblong, medifixed, dark purplish in colour. Ovary ± oblong with three carpels. Style c. as long as stamens. Capsule oblong. Seeds oblong to triquetrate, with black testa.
