General Appearance
Prospero autumnale (L.) Speta / Homotypic Synonyms: Urginea autumnalis (L.) El-Gadi, it is a bulbous geophyte, up to10-25 cm tall, with a large, oval, whitish bulb; slender stem, generally straight from the base, rough-puberulent in its lower third, 1-2 times longer than the adult leaves. Leaves 5-10, absent or very short at flowering, then elongated, erect, narrowly linear subacute, somewhat channeled, smooth. Lilac-blue flowers in a short then elongated raceme; ascending pedicels, without bracts, equaling the persistent perianth 4-5 mm long; blackish anthers; small, sub globose-obtuse capsule; locules with 2 seeds.
