General Appearance
Phagnalon saxatile (L.) Cass., it is a subshrub, Suffrutiscent, up to 20-60 cm tall. Stems asccnding or erect, very leafy, whitish tomentose. Leaves acute, greenish and sparsely woolly hairy above, whitish and densely tomentose below; margins ± revolute, erose or sparsely minute toothed. Lower cauline leaves 25-35 (-40) x 2.5-4 mm. linear to narrowly oblanceolate. The upper cauline leaves narrowly linear. Peduncles (40-) 60-80 (-100) mm. slender, terminal or axillary, whitish tomentose to glabrescent. Involucral bracts 7-8 rowed. Involucral bract of 1st row (on the peduncles) 2.75 x 0.5.0.75 mm. ovate, flat, sharply drawn into a long, soft, brown acumen, margin broadly scarious, irregularly toothed, dorsal side densely woolly hairy. Involucral bract of 2nd row 3.5 x 1 mm. linear-ovate, flat, sharped acute, dorsal face sparsely woolly hairy, margin broadly scarious, saw toothed. Involucral bract of 3rd row 4-5 1I. 1-1.25 mm. linear-ovate to linear lanceolate, weakly curved in, sharply acute, dorsal face sparsely hairy to glabrescent, margins scarious, undulate, erose. Involucral bracts of 4th. and 5th. row 6-7 x 1.25 mm. similar to 3rd. row. Involucral bracts of 6th. row 8 x .75 mm. linear-oblong, smooth, acute, margins scarious, weakly undulate near the apex. Involucral bracts of 7th. & 8th. Row 8.5-9 x 0.75-0.5 mm. narrowly linear, acute-acuminate, smooth, margins flat, scarious, erose near the apex. Marginal florets female, corolla 5.75-6.5 mm. tubular-filiform, 5-lobed, lobes 0.25 mm; pappus setae 7, 6.5 mm long. scabrid. Central florets hermaphrodite; corolla 7·7.5 mm, tubular-campanulate, 5-lobed; lobes .75 mm. acute; pappus setae 7,6.5-7 mm, scabrid. Cypselas 1 mm. pubescent.
