General Appearance

Ornithogalum pyramidale L. / Heterotypic Synonyms: Loncomelos brevistylum (Wolfner) Dostál, it is a bulbous geophyte, glabrous, bulbose herb. Bulb ovoid e. 3 cm in diameter, tunics membranous, brownish in colour. Leaves 4-6 per plant, usually before flowers, linear, canaliculated c. 30 x 1.1 cm. Scape 30-80 cm long. Inflorescence elongated-pyramidal, with 20-30 flowers; pedicels bracteates, c. 3 cm long in fruit, bracts lanceolate, acuminate, shorter than to as long as pedicels at flowering, l-2 cm long. Perianth whitish. Tepals lanceolate, obtuse, c. 1.2 x 0.3 cm. Stamens 6-8 mm long; filaments whitish lanceolate, attenuating towards the lip. Anthers yellow. Ovary oblong-ovoid with short style. 1-2 (-3) mm. Capsule ± oblong-ovoid, slightly constricted in the middle. Seeds ± ovoid, black, 3-4 mm long.
