General Appearance

Ornithogalum arabicum L. it is a bulbous geophyte, Bulb ovoid 2-4 cm in diameter, tunics membranous, grayish in colour. Leaves linear, ± canaliculate, acute, 20-40 x 3 cm. Scapes 30-80 cm long, 8-20-flowercd; pedicels 3-5 cm long; bracts triangular-lanceolate, membranous, 2-5 cm long, straw coloured at top. Perianth stellate. Tepals elliptical, 1,5-2.5 x 0.6-1.3 cm, white inside, white-greenish outside; inner tepals usually papillose at lips. Stamens shorter than tepals, 0.7-1 cm long; filaments white ± deltate, narrowing towards the tip. Anthers oblong, c, 2 mm long, versatile, yellowish. Ovary dark-greenish at top, half green at bottom, obovoid, with 6 clear lobes and short style, 2-4 mm long, greenish at base, stigma capitate. Capsule ± ovoid-trilobed, c. 1.1-1.2 cm long; seeds black.
