General Appearance

Noaea mucronata (Forssk.) Asch. & Schweinf., it is a perennial, thorny shrub, spreading to ascending, with many branches, glabrous and waxy, up to 60 cm tall, with branches ending in thorns. The leaves are alternate, ribbon-like, 0.5 -1.5 cm long, semi-cylindrical and spiny. with an ovate base. subulate or linear-filiform above. upper ones shorter, somewhat decurrent, semiterete. mucronate, ± papillose-scabrous at margin. Bracts and bracteoles ovate at base, triquetrous-subulate. Flowers axillary, alternate along the branches; perianth lobes c. 4 mm; wings in fruit unequal, 5-6 mm in diam, membranous, white or purplish, obovate to oblong, with usually erose margins: style thick, elongated. Seed vertical, with spiral embryo.

Notes

Wild in Libya, its distribution is limited to sandy, rocky soils, medicinal plant.
