General Appearance
Hyoseris radiata L.,̸ Heterotypic Synonyms: Hyoseris radiate ssp. gracea Halácsy, it is a perennial plant, with basal parts thickened and ± oblique and with a thick vertically descending root. Leaves 50-250 x 10-50 mm, erect or ascending, oblanceolate, often long petiolate, glabrous or mealy, often hispid on petiole and under mid-rib, pinnatifid; lobes ± ovate, sub entire or toothed, acutish, alternate or opposite, often irregularly overlaping. Scapes (6-) 10-36 (45) cm. erect, usually glabrous or sometime hispid, ± filiform and not swollen below the capitulum. Involucre 10-15 x 7-15 mm. Involueral bracts pale or dark, glabrous or mealy, spreading in fruiting. Outer involucral bracts 4-5 mm, ovate. Inner involueral bracts 12-14 mm, lanceolate, mid-rib thickened dorsally in fruiting. Cypsela 8-10 mm. brown, puberulent, the marginals compressed; the median ones compressed and winged; the inner ones terete; all with pappus of linear scales and rigid hairs.
