General Appearance
Filago libyaca (Alavi) Greuter / Homotypic Synonyms: Evax libyaca Alavi, it is a branched annual; stem (1-) 5-10 cm, whitish tomentose procumbent or ascending. Leaves of the rosette 15-20 x4-5 mm, broadly lanceolate to spathulate, acuto-mucronate. Cauline leaves 7-10 x 2.25 mm, broadly lanceolate, acuto-mucronate; leaves subtending the cluster of capitula 5-7, (7-) 8-10 x 1.25-1.75 mm, linear-oblong, obtuse, ± erect, over topping the cluster, dirty-white tomentose. Capitula 5-10 in a compounded cluster; cluster 10-15 mm wide, semi globose in outline; capitulum 5-6 x 3.5-4 mm, obpyramidal. Involueral bracts more than 30, dirty yellowish or brown, acutish but not aristate. Involucral bracts of 1st, row 4.5 mm long, oblanceolate, shallowly concave, midnerve, ± strongly carinate, acute, margins ± membranous, with long woolly hairs on the baek in the upper half. Involucral bracts of 2nd to 5th row 4.25-4.5 mm, lanceolate, shallowly convave to ± flat, midnerve progressively weak-carinate to ± fleshy, with broad membranous margins, with long woolly hairs on the back in the upper half. Involucral bracts of 6lh. and 7th. row 3.25-4 mm long, ± flat, broadly lanceolate, mid-nerve fleshy but not carinate, margins broadly membranous, with woolly hairs in the upper half. Involucral bracts of 8th. -11th. row 2.25-3 mm, lanceolate, flat, thin papery with prominent mid nerve slightly pouched at the back in the center, with few woolly hairs at the back. Female florets 8-10 on the apex of the receptacle, corolla 2-2.5 mm, filiform; ovary 1-1.25 mm, obovoid-elliptical papillose, dark brown, epappose. Hermaphrodite florets 7, in the center at the apex of the receptacle; corolla 2 mm long, tubular, 5-toothed; ovary weakly developed.
