General Appearance
Dipcadi serotinum (L.) Medik., it is a bulbous geophyte, bulb ovoid, 1-6 cm in diameter, tunics papery coriaceous, the outermost white-greyish. Leaves 2-3, glabrous, fleshy, canaliculate, linear to linear-lanceolate equaling to shorter than scape, 20-40 x 0.2-0.5 cm. Scaps simple, erect 15-100 cm long, 3-20 flowered; bracts membranous, ± lanceolate with acuminate lips, multi-nerved, c. 2 cm long. Flowers showy; pedicels short, c. 1 cm long in fruit. Perianth ± campanulate. Tepals 6, fleshy, orange-greenish, orange when dry, linear to linear-oblong with obscure nerves, and ± blunt lips, 10-18 x 2-4 mm, connate at base to form short tube, 1/4-1/2 as long as the free segments, outer reflexed at the middle, inner with reflexed lips becoming straight after fertilization. Stamens 6, equal, shorter than tepals and adnate to them at the throat of the tube; filaments entire with dilate base. Anthers linear, c. 3 mm long. Ovary green, oblong with short white style, 2-4 mm long, with slightly inflated stigma. Capsule sub globular with clear marked valves, c. 1.5 x 1 cm. Seeds many, flat, discoid, blackish in colour with membmnous margins.
