General Appearance
Crocodilium pumilio (L.) N.Garcia & Susanna / Homotypic Synonyms: Centaurea pumilio L., it is a perennial herb only 3-5 cm tall, with a stem only strongly shortened and leaves growing in a ground rosette. The leaves are petiolate, variable in shape, entire to lyre-shaped, spidery-hairy, gray-green. The Capitula grow singly or in pairs, the involucre is ovate, the involucre bracts are broadly ovate, leathery, with a wide membranous margin along the edge and a prominent spine 5-9 mm long at the apex. The flowers are pink to purple, the outer one slightly longer than the inner one. The fruit is an achene with fluff.
