General Appearance

Crepis vesicaria L. // Infraspecific: Crepis vesicaria ssp. stellata (Ball) Babc., Crepis vesicaria ssp. taraxacifolia (Thuill.) Thell., Crepis vesicaria ssp. vesicaria, it is a coarse, growing,caulescent, (3-) 35-70 (-150) cm, usually branched perennial, glabrous or tomentose to shortly villous plants; hairs long glandular or eglandular, not dark tipped. Basal leaves (20-) 100-170 (-350) x (8-)20-40 (-80) mm, oblanceolate or obovate or sometimes ± spathulate, obtuse or acute, ± entire with retrorsely denticulate-sinuate margins or runcinate-pinnatifid, pinnatisect or 2-pinnatifid, often lyrate cleft; lobes ± triangular, sparsely toothed. Lower cauline leaves like basal leaves, sessile, auriculate-amplexicaule. Upper cauline leaves usually reduced, bract-like. Capitula many in a lax, spreading or erect corymb, 60-140 flowered. Peduncles 8-60 mm long, subtended by conspicuous, scarious bracts. Receptacle ciliate. Involucre 5-14 mm, ± tomentose with glandular and eglandular hairs. Outer involucral bracts (1/6-) 1̸4.-1̸3 (-3̸4) as long as inner, broadly ovate to linear lanceolate, imbricate or not. Inner involucral bracts 12-14, sometimes indurated and keeled at maturity; minutely hairy on the inner surface. Ligules yellow, 7-9 mm. Style branches usually green or dark green. Cypsela homo or dimorphic, 4-8.5 (-9) mm long, brown or yellowish, fusiform, c. 10-ribbed; the inner ones always beaked, Pappus white, ± included or partly exserted from the involucre. A variable species and in Libya 3 sub species can be recognized
