General Appearance

Bupleurum gibraltaricum Lam., it is a shrub, up to 60-100 (200) cm. Stems woody at the base and frequently in the middle of their length, little or ± branchy. Leaves all similar, 3-24 x 0.3- 3 cm, leathery in consistency, sub amplexicaules, gradually attenuating towards the base, sometimes forming a short petiole, narrowly to broadly oblong-lanceolate, acute extending in uncinated mucron, pinnatinervias with a well-marked central vein and with reticulum of faint lateral veins, without intramarginal nerve, with upper and lower sides of the same color (glaucous); Basal leaves withered before flowering. Terminal and lateral umbels, the lateral ones smaller, with (3)5-25(57) rays of 1-10 (13) cm, sub equal, rarely unequal, rigid. Bracts (3) 4-7(12), ovate to lanceolate, reflexive, much shorter than the rays, persistent in fruiting. Bractoles (3)5-6 (7), 2-9 or 2-3(5) mm, sub-equal, sometimes unequal, ovate-lanceolate, slightly or longer and wider than the flowers and fruits, separated from each other. Flowers (3)5-10(25), with yellow or greenish-yellow petals, with or without a darker middle band. Fruits clearly pediceled pedicels 2-7(11) mm; mericarps 4-8 (11) x 1-2 mm, oblong to oblong-elliptical, smooth, with narrowly winged, smooth ribs; 1 vita per vallecula and 2 on the commissural surface. Seeds with flat endosperm on the commissural surface.
