General Appearance

Bellevalia ciliata (Cirillo) T.Nees , it is a bulbous geophyte, robust plant, bulb 3-5 cm in cross section. Leaves 4-6 per plant, linear to linear-lanceolate, c. 30 x 3 cm at maturity, narrowing at base, tip slightly acute to obtuse, margin ciliate. Scape usually one, robust, glabrous, 50-60 cm at maturity. Inflorescence racemose with many (18-40), pedicellate flowers; pedicels glabrous, the lower ones up to 10 cm long. Prianth ± campanulate, 1-10 mm long, lower part of tepals connate to form a sub cylindrical tube, oblong with ± obtuse tips, outer tepals brownish-violaceous while the inner white-greenish in colour. Stamens included; filaments adnate to the perianth tube; anthers oblong. mcdifixed. Ovary ± oblong-triquetrate, greenish in colour; style c. 3 mm long, shorter than stamens with violaceous capitate stigma. Capsules oblong-triquetrate, 1.5-2 x 0.8 cm; seeds blackish, 2-4 in each locule, ± sub globular, 2-2.5 mm in diameter.
