General Appearance

Barnardia numidica (Poir.) Speta / Homotypic Synonyms: Scilla numidica Poir., it is a bulbous geophyte ovoid, c. 4 cm long covered with membranous brown tunics. Leaves basal, 4-6 per rosette, linear, c. 25 x 004-1.5 cm, lip ± acuminate; scape 10-45 cm long, 30-60-ftowered; pedicels c. 8 mm long, bractcolilte; bracts membranous, linear 3-12 mm long, whitish in colour. Flowers small; tepals free, c. 3 mm long, oblong-lanceolate; with dark nerve; stamens equal, ± as long as perianth; filaments linear-lanceolate; anthers midifixed; ovary with three distinct lobes, depressed at top; style exserted; capsule 3-lobed, with 3 black ellipsoid seeds.
