General Appearance

Atractylis humilis L., it is a perennial plant with a woody base; glabrous plant (in our region) of 3-30 cm, erect; simple and single-headed stem very leafy, accompanied by short non-flowering stems. Leaves hard, leathery, sessile, narrow, linear, regularly pinnatifid with stiff, spiny teeth. Involucre with outer bracts applied, similar to the leaves. The inner ones entire, scarious, truncate or emarginate at the apex suddenly mucronate with a purpurine tip. The middle ones obovate-oblong. The inner ones linear. Flowers purplish, the outer ones longer, those of the ray florets with few setae, those of the disc florets of numerous setae. Achenes covered with white, woolly hairs, 5-7 x 2-3 mm; pappus slightly longer than the cypsela, yellowish-brown.
