General Appearance

Anthemis cyrenaica Coss. / Syn. Anthemis cyrenaica var. cyrenaica, Anthemis cyrenaica var. radiata Pamp., it is an annual herb, small up to 7-12 (-20) cm, adpressed hairy villous, erect or ascending hairs woolly and biramus. Stems solitary to few, simple or branched above. Leaves 1-2 pinnatisect; lobes remote, linear acute-mucronate; base of the petiole with few lateral small lobes, but not dialated. Capitula 4-7 mm in diam, in discoid forms, up to 12 mm in radiale forms, homogamous or heterogamous, pedunculate. Peduncles 2-5 (-6) cm long (in radiate forms 2-4 cm), Striate, with 1-few rudimentary leafy appendages, slender but becoming thickened in fruiting below the capitulum. Receptacle strongly convex-sub globose. Involucre hemispherical; involucral bracts 4-5 rowed, imbricate, hirsute, hairy, broadly white scarious with mid-nerve ± herbaceous. Outer involucral bracts oblong-lanceolate, acute. Middle inyolueral bracts oblong, obtuse, margins fimbriate. Inner ones oblong-lanceolate. keeled above, margins hairy. Palea concavecarinate, ± oblong. outer peripheral ones ± truncate with mid-nerve prolonged into short cusp, with few scattered hairs near the apex; central ones somewhat tapered above, 2-3 toothed-erose near the apex. All florets tubular. hermaphrodite, yellow or marginal florets ligulate, female, white. Corolla of the peripheral tubular florets compressed, 2-winged. Cypsela cylindro-conical, pappose. sub 10-ribbed; ribs smooth; pappus articulate.
