General Appearance

Anacyclus clavatus (Desf.) Pers., it is an annual herb pubescent to villous   up to 50 cm tall, divaricately branched. Branches terminal in to 1 (-2) short peduncles. Leaves oblong or oblanceolate in outline, pinnatisect; lobes entire or pinnatifid to pinnatisect: segments linear, mucronate. Basal leaves petiolate, ± rosetted. Cauline leaves sessile, sub auriculate; auricles pinnatilobed. Capitula 10-15 mm in diam. (excl., ray florets); rays white. disc yellow.Peduncles 1.5-4 cm long, becoming clavate after anthcsis. Involucre bracts 5-6.5 x 1.25-1.5 mm, lanceolate 10 ovate-lanceolate, acute or acuminate, scriceous-villous, with a narrow, hyaline or purplish scarious margins. Palea 5-5.5 x 2·3 mm, oblong obovate to obovate-cuneate, mucronate, weakly incurved and somewhat coriaceous in fruiting, margins near the apex hairy and somewhat lacerate. ligule 5.5-14 mm, white, oblanceolate, reflexed, sometimes absent; basal tube 2 mm long. Disc corolla 3.5-5 mm (includ. the lobes), tubular, tube in the lower pan dorsoventrally compressed, 2, winged just above the ovary, in the upper half gradually widening, 5-lobed; 2 adaxial lobes each with an erect. narrow, dorsal appendages up to 1.5 mm. Cypsela 2.5-3.5 (-4) mm, dorsoventrally compressed; ray cypsela c. 3 mm broad (includ. c.1 mm- wide, scarious wings), epappose, with persistent basal tube of the corolla; peripheral disc cypselas similar, coronate, corona only adaxial, lacerate, up to 0.75 mm, scarious membrane; inner or central cypsela narrowly winged or not, up to 1.75 mm broad.
