General Appearance

Allium barthianum Asch. & Schweinf.. it is a bulbous geophyte, bulb solitary ovate-oblong with small bulbels; tunics brown fibrous forming sheath covering the bulb and the lower part of the leaves at scape base. Leaves cylindrical fistulose with tapering tipes. about 20 cm long, Scape slightly shorter than leaves and covered with striped leaf sheaths; spathe acuminate, white tinged with brown-reddish veins, splitting open into two valves. Umbel hemispherical, flowers many, fertile; pedicels unequal, the longest twice as long as the flower, bracteoles present; perianth more or less campanulate; tepals white tinged with faint rose; stamens included the outer filaments entire with triangular base, while the inner tricuspidate with the fertile cusp at the mid; style included and stigma capitate.
