General Appearance

Silene tridentata Desf., it is a small annual herb, up to 35 cm, with erect, simple or branched stems. Leaves sessile. narrowly lanceolate-oblanceolate, 15-30 x 3-8 mm, densely antrorse pubescent, lower ones attenuate, ± petiolate, upper connate-vaginate and ciliate at the base, acute. Flowers pink, 6-8 mm across, in lax scorpioid raceme-like monochasia; pediccls absent or minute; bracts leafy, linear, c. half as long as leaves. Calyx with 10 prominent, villous nerves, strongly constricted below the teeth in fruit. Corolla with pink petals and a bifid limb. Stamens 10, filaments glabrous; anthers oblong, c. 1 mm long, purplish. Ovary oblong-cylindrical, stipe c. 1 mm long, hairy; styles included.  Capsule ovoid, sub globose. Seeds brown, wingless, reniform in outline, with strongly concave lateral faces and a broad, shallowly grooved back. Cells of the lateral faces papillose. Attachment zone with filiform elements.
